National Aviary Visit

A live African penguin named Disco attended the event, and the students were able to get a
close-up look at the bird feeding while learning about the species.

The program was funded with a generous grant from the Central Cambria Education Foundation
(CCEF), an organization that fills educational and funding gaps by supporting innovation,
engaging communities and changing lives for the Central Cambria School District.
"The Central Cambria Education Foundation is proud to fund programs such as the National
Aviary Penguin Program for the students of the Central Cambria School District,” said Curt
Mellott, Director of CCEF. “Witnessing the energy and enthusiasm of these elementary school
students was rewarding for both those in attendance from the Foundation and myself. The
Foundation thanks Jenn Mesoras, principal at the Cambria Elementary School, and Christine
Long, principal at Jackson Elementary for their involvement. Special thanks also to the Cambria
Elementary School Parent-Teacher Organization for bringing this opportunity to the Foundation.
The Foundation believes that these types of educational programs enrich our students and the
Foundation will continue to fund them in the future."

Misti Smith, Central Cambria PTO President, expressed her gratitude to the CCEF. “We could
not have had this incredible educational program come to our school without the support of the
CCEF. Opportunities such as these allow our students to receive a well-rounded, dynamic
education that reaches far beyond the classroom.”
