School Nurse

CENTRAL CAMBRIA SCHOOL NURSES

School nurses maintain student records, perform state mandated health screenings, administer doctor-prescribed medications, perform nursing procedures, respond to illnesses and accidents, perform or assist physicians with school examinations, assist dentist with school examinations, provide health counseling and referral, conduct health related classroom instruction and serve as a parent and classroom consultant in health related matters.

 

IMPORTANT REMINDERS

ELEMENTARY MANDATED HEALTH SCREENINGS

Height/Weight/Vision: every grade level

Dental Forms: upon entry/1st & 3rd

Physical Forms: upon entry/1st

Hearing: K, 1st, 2nd, 3rd & special education students

 

IMMUNIZATIONS REQUIREMENTS:

*4 doses of DTaP (1 dose on or after 4th birthday)

*4 doses of Polio (1 dose on or after 4th birthday)

*2 doses of MMR

*3 doses of hepatitis B

*2 doses of varicella (chickenpox) or evidence of immunity

*1 dose of Tdap/MCV are REQUIRED for ENTRY into 7th grade. 

*2nd dose of MCV is due for entry into 12th grade. 

*FAILURE TO PROVIDE PROOF OF IMMUNIZATION, EXEMPTION, OR MEDICAL SCHEDULE WILL RISK THE STUDENT BEING HELD OUT OF SCHOOL AFTER THE FIRST 5 DAYS. IF THERE ARE QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS REGARDING IMMUNIZATIONS, PLEASE CONTACT YOUR BUILDINGS SCHOOL NURSE. 

 

Please keep your child home with any vomiting, diarrhea or fevers 100 degrees or higher.

Students must be fever free for 24 hours before returning to school.

All full time Central Cambria School District nurses meet the state certification requirements, which include:

   Baccalaureate Degree

   Completion of Pa. Department of Education approved school nurse certification program

   180 Continuing Education Units every 5 years
